Dieter Langewiesche is Professor Emeritus of Modern and Medieval History at the University of Tübingen. His research has covered European history in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, with a particular focus on nation and war, European history in a global perspective, and historical thought. Langewiesche is a member of the Heidelberg Academy of Sciences and Humanities and the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina. He received the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Prize in 1996. His publications include Der gewaltsame Lehrer. Europas Kriege in der Moderne (2019).
