William S Burroughs

William S. Burroughs (1914–1997) was an American writer and a major figure of the Beat Generation and the American counterculture. Born in St. Louis, Missouri, he studied at Harvard University and met Jack Kerouac and Allen Ginsberg in 1944–45. His 1959 novel “Naked Lunch” marked his literary breakthrough and became an important work in debates over literary censorship. Burroughs also collaborated with artists from various fields. David Cronenberg adapted “Naked Lunch” for the screen in 1991.
