Udo Breger

Udo Breger, born in Göttingen in 1941, is an author, translator, exhibition curator and photographer. He studied English and Romance languages and literature. From 1968 to 1975, he ran Expanded Media Editions, a publishing house devoted to conceptual art and Beat Generation authors. Breger developed projects with, among others, Ian Hamilton Finlay, Joseph Beuys, Wolf Vostell, Allen Ginsberg and William S. Burroughs. He translated works by Robert Shea, John Lilly, Alan Watts, Walt Whitman and Thorne Smith, and worked as a translator on Robert Wilson’s “The Black Rider” at Hamburg’s Thalia Theater. In 2012 and 2013, he co-curated the exhibition “The Name Is Burroughs” with Peter Weibel and Axel Heil.
