Werner Schlegel (born 1951 in the Franconia region of Germany) is a German writer, journalist and cabaret artist. After training as an office clerk, he turned to writing. He published poetry and prose collections, nonfiction books, and contributions to literary journals and anthologies, and wrote for publications including Die Zeit and Stern. His books include Dornrösia und andere moderne Märchen und Sagen (1994) and Der ganz normale Wahnsinn – 10 Leersätze aus einem unnormalen Autorenleben (2005), which was also released as an audio CD. With Marit Rullmann, he co-authored Frauen denken anders (2000) and Denken, um zu leben (2018). From 1999 onward, Schlegel performed solo cabaret programs, served for many years as director of the Literarische Werkstatt Marl, and received several literary awards.
