Tevfik Turan (born 1954 in Istanbul) studied German language and literature as well as European art history at Istanbul University. From 1974 to 1979, he worked as a German teacher at the Goethe-Institut in Istanbul, followed by work as a lecturer in German and translation exercises until 1981. From 1981 onward, he worked as a lecturer in Turkish at the Department of Turkology at the University of Hamburg’s Asia-Africa Institute. In 2016, he received the Tarabya Prize for German-Turkish Translation.
