Steffen Martus (born 1968) studied German philology, social studies, philosophy and sociology at the University of Regensburg, where he received his doctorate in 1998. After serving as a junior professor at Humboldt University of Berlin and completing his habilitation, he taught at the universities of Erlangen-Nuremberg and Kiel. From 2010 onward, he was Professor of Modern German Literature at Humboldt University of Berlin. His research has focused on German literature from the seventeenth century to the present, as well as the history and theory of philology. His biography of the Brothers Grimm was nominated for the Leipzig Book Fair Prize. In 2015, he received the Leibniz Prize from the German Research Foundation.
