Stefan Zweifel

Stefan Zweifel (born 1967 in Zurich) is a Swiss philosopher, translator, journalist, curator, and moderator. He studied philosophy, comparative literature, and Egyptology at the University of Zurich and wrote his doctoral thesis in philosophy with Michael Pfister on Sade, Hegel, and La Mettrie. He became particularly known for the new translation of Sade’s major works, “Justine” and “Juliette,” produced with Pfister. He has also translated works by Blaise Cendrars, Jean-Jacques Rousseau, Raymond Roussel, Marcel Proust, and Boris Vian, among others. As a curator, he contributed to exhibitions on Dadaism, Surrealism, and Situationism; until 2004, he edited the trilingual cultural magazine “Gazzetta.” He was a moderator of the Swiss program “Literaturclub” and wrote for the Neue Zürcher Zeitung and other literary journals. He received the Berlin Prize for Literary Criticism in 2009 and the Zug Translation Prize in 2011.
