Beat Wyss

Beat Wyss, born in Basel in 1947, is an art historian and media theorist. From 1989 to 1997, he held a chair in art history at Ruhr University Bochum, and from 1997 to 2004 he directed the Institute of Art History at the University of Stuttgart. From 2004 to 2017, he headed the Art Studies and Media Philosophy group at the Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design and led the graduate program “Image – Medium – Body.” In 2001, he received the City of Lucerne’s Art and Culture Prize for the publication “Lucerne, Architecture and Urban Planning 1850–1920.” His first volume of poetry, “Ich und der Nobody,” was published in 2023.
