Stefan Rahmstorf

Stefan Rahmstorf (born 1960) is a climate scientist and professor of ocean physics. He headed the Earth System Analysis department at the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research and held a position at the University of Potsdam. After studying physics in Konstanz and Ulm, he spent four years in New Zealand and took part in research expeditions in the South Pacific. Rahmstorf has published more than 140 scientific papers and several popular-science books, including “Clouds, Wind & Weather.” His distinctions include the Alfred Wegener Medal from the European Geosciences Union (2024) and several awards for climate communication.
