Hans Joachim Schellnhuber is a physicist who founded the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK), where he served as director. He was Professor of Theoretical Physics at the University of Potsdam and chaired the German Advisory Council on Global Change (WBGU). He also served on international scientific bodies, including the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). Schellnhuber has published numerous scientific studies and books. Together with Stefan Rahmstorf, he wrote *Climate Change* for the Beck Wissen series, a volume that has appeared in several editions.
