Born in 1970, Petra Hartmann studied German, philosophy and political science in Hanover and earned a doctorate with a thesis on Theodor Mundt. She worked as a journalist and editor, including at the Neue Deister-Zeitung and, from 2019, at the Goslarsche Zeitung. Her publications include seven novels, three scholarly books on literary studies, two collections of fairy tales and an audiobook of Christmas fairy tales. She also published studies on Young Germany, Uwe Johnson, and Faust and Don Juan literature. In 2008, she received the German Phantastik Prize; she placed third three times in the Storyolympiade.
