Peter Wawerzinek, born in Rostock in 1954 under the name Peter Runkel, was a German author. He grew up in various children’s homes and with foster families. From 1988 onward, he worked as a freelance writer, director, radio-play author and singer; he was also active as a performer and action artist. His works include Moppel Schappiks Tätowierungen (1991), Das Kind, das ich war (1994), Rabenliebe (2010), Schluckspecht (2014) and Liebestölpel (2019). In 2010, an excerpt from Rabenliebe won the Ingeborg Bachmann Prize and the Audience Prize; the novel was also shortlisted for the German Book Prize. In 1991, he received a Bertelsmann scholarship at the Ingeborg Bachmann competition and the Berlin Critics’ Prize for Literature.
