Joris Bas Backer

Joris Bas Backer was born in the Netherlands in 1981 and graduated in 2003 from the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam, where he studied fine art. He worked as a comic artist and illustrator. In 2018, he co-published the cartoon collection “Familienjuwelen” with Nettmann. His first graphic novel, “Küsse für Jet,” was published in 2020. This autofictional story follows a character coming of age in the 1990s while exploring their gender identity. Backer’s short comics were nominated for the Plastieken Plunk (2021) and the GINCO Award (2022).
