Hermes Phettberg

Hermes Phettberg (born 1952) is an Austrian actor, performance artist, writer and talk-show host. He grew up in Lower Austria and became known in the 1990s as the host of the ORF program “Nette Leit Show,” which made him an icon of Austria’s queer scene. From 1982 onward, he wrote the column “Phettberg’s Predigtdienst” for the Viennese city newspaper Falter. Phettberg had originally intended to become a priest. His life and work were the subjects of Kurt Palm’s film “Hermes Phettberg, Elender” and Sobo Swobodnik’s “Der Papst ist kein Jeansboy.”
