Peter Brandt, born in Berlin in 1948, is a historian and habilitated professor of modern German and European history. From 1989 to 2014, he headed the corresponding department at the FernUniversität in Hagen. From 2003 to 2017, he served as director of the Dimitris Tsatsos Institute for European Constitutional Studies. His research focused on European constitutional history, nationalism and nation-building, the history of Prussia and Northern Europe, the workers’ movement and socialism, and the German question, particularly after 1945.
