Alexander Rahr

Alexander Rahr, born in Taipei in 1959, is a historian, political scientist and writer specializing in Eastern Europe and Russia. From 1994/95 to 2012, he headed the Russia and Eurasia Centre at the German Council on Foreign Relations and also advised the German government during that period. Before and after this role, he worked at research institutes and as a political and corporate consultant specializing in energy policy. Rahr has published nonfiction books, including biographies of Mikhail Gorbachev, Vladimir Putin and Dmitry Medvedev, as well as the political thriller *2054: Putin Decoded*. He is a recipient of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany.
