Manfred Ertel

Manfred Ertel, born in Hamburg in 1950, spent almost 40 years as a political correspondent and investigative reporter or writer for the German news magazine DER SPIEGEL. He researched and exposed numerous scandals, including the Waterkantgate affair involving Uwe Barschel, the former minister-president of Schleswig-Holstein. After retiring, Ertel published such books as the crime novel “FoulSpieler,” about match-fixing in football, the political thriller “Akte B. Wenn die Möwen tiefer fliegen,” and the reportage collection “Lost & Dark Places Hamburg.” He also served as chairman of the HSV supervisory board.
