Kathrin Hanke was born in Hamburg and studied cultural studies in Lüneburg. She worked in radio, wrote for newspapers, created advertising copy and worked as a ghostwriter before turning to writing as a freelance author. She became known primarily for the Heide crime series developed with Claudia Kröger, featuring the investigative duo Katharina von Hagemann and Benjamin Rehder, as well as for her true-crime books. Her work often combines fiction with real events.
