Leonhard Frank

Leonhard Frank (1882–1961) was a German writer. Born in Würzburg, the son of a carpenter, he initially worked as a locksmith, chauffeur, house painter, and hospital attendant before studying art in Munich. He gained recognition with his first novel, *Die Räuberbande*, which won the Fontane Prize. Among his other notable works are the pacifist stories *Der Mensch ist gut* and the autobiographical novel *Links, wo das Herz ist*. Frank spent periods in exile and died in Munich.
