Hans Fallada

Hans Fallada (1893–1947), whose real name was Rudolf Wilhelm Friedrich Ditzen, was a German writer. Before becoming known as an author, he worked among other occupations as an estate manager, bookkeeper, and publishing employee. His first novel, “Der junge Goedeschal,” was published in 1920 under the pseudonym Hans Fallada. He achieved international recognition with “Little Man, What Now?” (1932). Other well-known works include “Farmers, Bosses and Bombs,” “Once a Jailbird,” and “Wolf Among Wolves.” His realistic novels are often associated with the New Objectivity movement. His final novel, “Every Man Dies Alone,” was completed and published in 1947. The pseudonym was inspired by characters from two fairy tales by the Brothers Grimm.
