Kurt Tucholsky

Kurt Tucholsky (1890–1935) was a German journalist, writer, and one of the major publicists of the Weimar Republic. He worked as a political commentator, satirist, poet, songwriter, cabaret author, and critic of literature, film, and music. Tucholsky contributed to publications including »Ulk«, »Die Schaubühne«, and »Die Weltbühne«, of which he was a co-editor for a time. A committed pacifist and social critic, he warned early against militarism, political reaction, and National Socialism. His best-known works include »Rheinsberg: A Picture Book for Lovers«, »A Pyrenean Book«, »Germany, Germany Above All«, and »Gripsholm Castle«. He frequently published under the pseudonyms Peter Panter, Theobald Tiger, Ignaz Wrobel, and Kaspar Hauser.
