Jakob Ludwig Karl Grimm (1785–1863) was a German linguist, cultural scholar, lawyer, and collector of folk tales. Together with his brother Wilhelm, he is regarded as one of the founders of German studies. The brothers became particularly well known for collecting and editing the “Children’s and Household Tales” and for beginning the “German Dictionary.” Jakob Grimm took part in the protest of the “Göttingen Seven,” after which he was expelled from the country.
