Wilhelm Carl Grimm (1786–1859) was a German jurist and scholar of language and literature. Together with his older brother Jacob, he collected and edited fairy tales and legends from 1806 onward; this work included the internationally renowned collection “Children’s and Household Tales.” The brothers also began compiling the “German Dictionary.” Wilhelm Grimm worked, among other places, at the library in Kassel and at the University of Göttingen, where he became an associate professor in 1835. In 1837, he was dismissed from his position as a signatory of the protest by the “Göttingen Seven.” He later taught at the University of Berlin and continued his scholarly collaboration with Jacob.
