H. C. Artmann (1921–2000) was an Austrian poet, writer, and translator. Born in Vienna, he also died there. Artmann was a member and co-founder of the Wiener Gruppe and wrote in various forms of language, including Viennese dialect, as well as in different literary styles. He gained wider recognition with the poetry collection “med ana schwoazzn dintn” (1958). His honors included the Grand Austrian State Prize and the Georg Büchner Prize (1997).
