Klaus Reichert (born 1938) is a literary scholar, author, translator and editor. From 1964 to 1968 he worked as an editor at Suhrkamp and Insel; he subsequently taught English and American studies for almost three decades at Goethe University Frankfurt, where he founded the Centre for Research into the Early Modern Period in 1993. From 2002 to 2011, he was president of the German Academy for Language and Literature. He translated works by Shakespeare, Lewis Carroll and James Joyce, among others, and edited the Suhrkamp edition of Joyce’s works. His honours include the Austrian Cross of Honour for Science and Art, First Class, the Federal Cross of Merit, First Class, and the Wilhelm Merton Prize for European Translations.
