Gerd Herholz was born in Duisburg, Germany. He studied German literature, psychology and education and passed the first and second state examinations for teachers of philological subjects. After completing his studies, he worked, among other things, as a freelance journalist, an assistant to an autistic person and a tutor supporting children with dyslexia. From 1984 to 1987, he was involved in community cultural work in Oberhausen. He subsequently worked at the Literature Office Ruhr until 2018, most recently as its academic director. Herholz published poetry, contributions to newspapers, magazines and radio, as well as scholarly texts. His books include “auf- und abgesänge. gedichte”, “Die Musenkussmischmaschine. 132 Schreibspiele für Schulen und Schreibwerkstätten” and the edited volume “Lesebuch Sigismund von Radecki” (2021).
