Dieter Haller, born in 1962, is a social anthropologist. He received his doctorate from Heidelberg University and was appointed professor of social anthropology at Ruhr University Bochum in 2005. Haller was a co-founder of the university’s Centre for Mediterranean Studies. His long-term anthropological fieldwork took him, among other places, to Seville, Gibraltar, Texas and Tangier. His research has focused on the western Mediterranean, ethnology, corruption, cosmopolitanism, possession and borderlands.
