Andreas Eckl

Andreas Eckl holds a doctorate in history and worked as a research associate at the Institute for Diaspora and Genocide Studies at Ruhr University Bochum. There, he led a research project funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) on the written and photographic estate of General Lothar von Trotha, commander of the German Schutztruppe in German South West Africa from 1904 to 1905. Eckl’s research interests include the colonial history of Africa, particularly the history of German South West Africa and Namibia, visual historiography, the cultural history of travel, and German-Mediterranean entanglements.
