Born in Vienna, Danielle Spera studied journalism and political science at the University of Vienna. From 1978 to 2010, she worked as a journalist, reporter and television presenter for Austrian broadcaster ORF; in 1987–88 she was its correspondent in Washington, D.C. From 2010 to 2022, she directed the Jewish Museum Vienna. Spera served as president of ICOM Austria and has written numerous books and articles on contemporary art and Jewish subjects. She received the Romy television award in 1991 and 2007.
