Charles Lewinsky, born in Zurich in 1946, studied German and theatre studies. He worked as a dramaturge, director and television editor before becoming a freelance writer in 1980. Lewinsky wrote radio plays, novels, plays and screenplays. His best-known works include »Melnitz«, which was translated into numerous languages and received several awards. His novels »Gerron«, »Kastelau« and »Der Halbbart« were also nominated for or recognized by literary prizes.
