Asal Dardan

Asal Dardan (born 1978 in Tehran) is a German author and translator. She grew up in Cologne, Bonn, and Aberdeen and studied cultural studies in Hildesheim and Middle Eastern studies in Lund. Her text “Neue Jahre” received the Caroline Schlegel Prize for Essay Writing. Her essay collection “Betrachtungen einer Barbarin” (2021) was nominated for the German Nonfiction Prize and the Clemens Brentano Prize. In 2023, she delivered the first Erika Mann Lecture at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich. She has also translated from English, including Namwali Serpell’s novel “Die Furchen” (2023).
