Mithu Sanyal (born in Düsseldorf in 1971) was a cultural scientist, author, journalist, and critic. Her non-fiction books include *Vulva: The Invisible Sex* (2009) and *Rape: Aspects of a Crime* (2016). Her debut novel, *Identitti*, was published by Hanser in 2021, shortlisted for the German Book Prize, and awarded the Ruhr Literature Prize and the Ernst Bloch Prize. Her second novel, *Antichristie*, followed in 2024. In 2026, Sanyal received the Heinrich Mann Prize for Essay Writing.
