Will Hicok Low

Will Hicok Low (1853–1932) was an American painter and illustrator. In 1873, he began his training in the studio of Jean-Léon Gérôme at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, and subsequently studied under Carolus-Duran until 1877. After returning to New York, he became a member of the Society of American Artists in 1878 and the National Academy of Design in 1890. He became known particularly for his depictions of New England types and his illustrations for works by John Keats. From 1882 to 1885, he taught at the Cooper Union schools in New York, and from 1889 to 1892 at the school of the National Academy of Design.
