Robert Swain Gifford (1840–1905) was an American landscape painter. He opened a studio in Boston in 1864 and moved to New York City two years later. In 1868, he became a member of the National Academy of Design. Gifford painted in Oregon and California and traveled through Europe, Morocco, and Egypt. His work received medals at the Philadelphia Centennial Exhibition in 1876 and the International Exposition in Paris in 1889.
