Walter Kappacher (1938–2024) was born and died in Salzburg. After leaving school at the age of 15, he worked in various occupations before beginning his literary career in 1964. He published his first works from 1967 and worked as a freelance writer from 1978 onward. His books include “Selina oder das andere Leben,” “Der Fliegenpalast,” “Schönheit des Vergehens,” and “Trakls letzte Tage & Mahlers Heimkehr.” Kappacher received numerous awards, including the Hermann Lenz Prize in 2004 and the Georg Büchner Prize in 2009.
