Uwe-Michael Gutzschhahn (b. 1952) studied English and German literature and earned a doctorate at Ruhr University Bochum. He then worked for many years as an editor and publishing director at several children’s and young adult publishers. From 2001 onward, he worked as a freelance author, translator, editor, literary editor and literary agent. He wrote poetry and prose for children and adults and edited numerous poetry anthologies for children, including “Ich liebe dich wie Apfelmus” and “Sieben Ziegen fliegen durch die Nacht.” He wrote his first poems as a child. In 2018, he received the Special Prize of the German Children’s and Young Adult Literature Prize for his translations and the Grand Prize of the Volkach Academy for Children’s and Young Adult Literature for his body of work in children’s literature.
