Sabine Wilharm (born 1954) studied illustration and book illustration at the College of Design in Hamburg. From 1976 onward, she worked as a freelance illustrator for magazines and children’s book publishers, creating cartoons, comics and illustrations for children’s and young adult books. She became widely known for designing the German editions of J. K. Rowling’s Harry Potter books, including their German covers from the outset. Her other work includes illustrations for Timo Parvela’s Ella series, Henning Callsen’s Pelle und Pinguine books, and books by John Saxby, Janwillem van de Wetering and Zoran Drvenkar. Until 2009, she also held occasional teaching assignments in illustration and drawing at Hamburg University of Applied Sciences.
