Philip Kerr (1956–2018) was a British crime, thriller and fantasy author. Born in Edinburgh, he published his first novel, *March Violets* (German: *Feuer in Berlin*), in 1989. The novel launched his series featuring private detective Bernhard Gunther. His notable works also included *The Wittgenstein Program* and *Game Over*, for which he received the German Crime Prize. Kerr died in London in 2018.
