Raoul Schrott, born in 1964, is a German-language author, poet, translator and essayist. He studied literature and linguistics in Innsbruck, Norwich, Paris and Berlin, worked as the French writer Philippe Soupault’s secretary in 1986–87, and was a university lecturer in Naples from 1990 to 1993. His works include the novels *Finis Terrae* and *Tristan da Cunha oder die Hälfte der Welt*, the poetry collections *Hotels* and *Tropen*, and the anthology *Die Erfindung der Poesie*. He has also translated, among other works, the Epic of Gilgamesh, Homer’s *Iliad* and Hesiod’s *Theogony*. His many honors include the Leonce and Lena Prize, the Peter Huchel Prize and the Joseph Breitbach Prize.
