Silvia Morawetz

Silvia Morawetz, born in Gera in 1954, studied English, American and German studies and received a doctorate. She worked as a literary translator from English from 1984 onward, translating around 150 works of prose, poetry, essays and radio plays. Her authors included Anne Sexton, Henry Miller, Ali Smith, James Kelman, Joyce Carol Oates and Hilary Mantel. Together with Kristian Lutze and Werner Schmitz, she translated Harry Belafonte’s autobiography “My Song.” She also edited George Moore’s autobiography “Confessions of a Young Man.” Morawetz received several grants from the German Translators’ Fund and the states of Baden-Württemberg and Lower Saxony.
