Siegfried Ringler was a secondary-school teacher and received his doctorate under Kurt Ruh in Würzburg. He studied German, Latin and history at the universities of Würzburg, Freiburg im Breisgau and Munich, and also attended lectures in theology, psychology and Romance literature. His scholarly work focused chiefly on hagiographic and revelatory literature associated with women’s religious movements, as well as on the mysticism of the 13th and 14th centuries. He published editions and articles, gave lectures and contributed to numerous encyclopedias.
