Senthuran Varatharajah was born in 1984 in Jaffna, Sri Lanka. He studied philosophy, Protestant theology, and comparative religious and cultural studies in Marburg, Berlin, and London. His debut novel, *Vor der Zunahme der Zeichen*, was published in 2016, followed by *Rot (Hunger)* in 2022. His literary work has received several awards, including the 3sat Prize at the 38th Days of German-Language Literature in Klagenfurt, the Kranichstein Literature Promotion Prize, the Bremen Literature Promotion Prize, the Adelbert von Chamisso Promotion Prize, and the Rauris Literature Prize.
