Rainer Winter

Rainer Winter (born 1960) studied psychology, philosophy, and sociology. From 2002 onward, he was Professor of Media and Cultural Theory at Alpen-Adria University Klagenfurt; from 2012, he was also an adjunct professor at Charles Sturt University in Sydney. He headed the university’s Institute of Media and Communication Studies and the Media and Communication Sociology section of the German Sociological Association. He held visiting professorships in Beijing and Shanghai. His academic work has addressed cultural studies, critical theory, qualitative research, film and television analysis, reception research, and the relationship between the internet and democracy.
