Paul Parin

Paul Parin (1916–2009) was a Swiss psychoanalyst, physician, and writer. He studied medicine in Graz, Zagreb, and Zurich, receiving his doctorate in 1943. During the Second World War, he worked as a surgeon with the Yugoslav Partisans. After training in neurology and psychoanalysis, he practised as a psychoanalyst. Together with Goldy Parin-Matthèy and Fritz Morgenthaler, he conducted psychoanalytic field research in West Africa and was one of the founders of ethnopsychoanalysis. His scholarly works include The Whites Think Too Much (1963) and Fear Thy Neighbor as Thyself. From 1980 onward, he also published several collections of stories, drawing in part on experiences from the partisan war and his travels in Africa.
