Luigi Boitani

Luigi Boitani is a biologist and conservation scientist. He was an honorary professor of conservation biology at La Sapienza University in Rome and founded the Institute of Applied Ecology in Rome, serving as its president. His other roles included chairing the IUCN Large Carnivore Initiative for Europe and the Scientific Committee of MUSE in Trento. Boitani’s research focused particularly on the social ecology of large carnivores and on wolves. He authored more than 400 scientific publications and ten books. In 2012, he received the IUCN/SSC Peter Scott Award for Conservation Merit.
