Katja Petrowskaja, born in Kyiv in 1970, is a German writer and journalist. She studied literary studies in Tartu, Stanford and Moscow, and completed a doctorate in Moscow. As a journalist, she worked for German- and Russian-language media, including the Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung. Her literary debut, Maybe Esther, was published in 2014, translated into more than 30 languages and received numerous awards, including the Ingeborg Bachmann Prize. Her other books include The Photograph Looked at Me (2022) and As If It Were Over (2024).
