Jane Addams (1860–1935) was an American social reformer, feminist, and peace activist who helped pioneer social work. In 1889, she founded Hull House in Chicago, a social center supporting immigrants and people living in poverty. She advocated social justice, women’s rights, and international peace. In 1931, she became the first American woman to receive the Nobel Peace Prize.
