Annette Kolb (1870–1967) was a German writer of French-German background. She wrote novels, essays, biographies, and journalistic and political texts. A committed pacifist, she advocated European understanding. Her notable works include “Kurze Aufsätze” (1899), “L’Âme aux deux patries” (1906), “Das Exemplar” (1913), “Daphne Herbst” (1928), and “Die Schaukel” (1934). She also wrote biographies of Mozart, Schubert, Aristide Briand, Ludwig II of Bavaria, and Richard Wagner. Her work received several honors, including the Fontane, Gerhart Hauptmann, and Goethe Prizes, as well as the insignia of the French Legion of Honour. Kolb died in Munich in 1967.
