Hildegard Ameln-Haffke holds a doctorate in philosophy and a degree in special education, with a focus on art and music therapy. She worked as a research associate at the University of Cologne’s Chair of General Special Education, where she also headed the department for special-education art education and art therapy and at times served as its acting head. She taught art and music at lower secondary level and worked as a psychotherapist under Germany’s Heilpraktikergesetz regulations and as a sandplay therapist. Until 2008, she taught at the Bonn Municipal Music School for 27 years and also worked for many years as a freelance educator at the Kunstmuseum Bonn and other museums. Her publications address art therapy, education, special education, and museum education.
