Heinz Riedt

Heinz Riedt (1919–1997) was a German translator from Italian and the author of a monograph on Carlo Goldoni. He studied political science, art history and literary history in Padua and joined the Italian resistance movement during the Second World War. Among the authors whose works he translated into German were Carlo Goldoni, Primo Levi, Luigi Pirandello and Italo Calvino. His translation work received the Italian Foreign Ministry’s Translator’s Prize in 1980, the Montecchio Prize in 1981, and the Christoph Martin Wieland Translation Prize.
